Our Story

How Rizana Came to Be

Rizana began in Ipoh in 2016, when a small group of people who had worked in nonprofit administration noticed that many associations in Perak faced the same recurring difficulty: managing shared funds without any structured grounding in how to do so properly.

Committee members rotate. Treasurers change. New volunteers arrive with enthusiasm but without context. The result, too often, is disorganised record-keeping, unclear reporting and frustration for everyone involved — including the members the organisation is meant to serve.

The founders of Rizana had backgrounds in nonprofit administration and adult education. Rather than offering one-off talks, they built a curriculum: a set of programmes that could take someone from their very first day as a committee treasurer all the way through to running an organised annual financial cycle.

Since 2016, Rizana has worked with associations, charities and community groups across Perak. Our approach has not changed: clear language, practical tools, and content shaped around the reality of how nonprofits actually operate.

What We Are Here to Do

Rizana's mission is to give association and charity committees the financial literacy they need to manage their organisations with confidence and transparency. We believe that any committee member — regardless of background — should be able to understand the basics of shared fund management.

Clarity over Complexity

We remove jargon from every session. If a concept cannot be explained simply, we work on our explanation before sharing it.

Education, Not Advice

All our programmes cover general informational content. We do not provide regulated financial or investment advice of any kind.

Nurul Hana Rashid

Programme Director

Nurul Hana has over fifteen years of experience in nonprofit administration across Perak. She leads curriculum development and ensures all content stays current with how associations operate on the ground.

Ahmad Khairul bin Ismail

Education Facilitator

Ahmad Khairul facilitates the Finance Skills Course and the Complete Programme sessions. His background is in adult learning, and he has a calm, approachable style that participants find reassuring.

Siti Wani Abdullah

Participant Support

Siti Wani coordinates enrolments, handles enquiries and supports participants throughout their programme. She is usually the first point of contact when you reach out to Rizana.

Our Standards

How We Keep Quality Consistent

Every programme Rizana delivers is held to the same set of internal standards. These are not marketing statements — they are the actual criteria we use to assess our own work.

Content Accuracy Review

All session materials are reviewed at least annually. Where guidelines or common practices change, we update content before the next delivery.

Participant Data Privacy

We collect only the information needed to administer enrolments and communicate with participants. Data is not shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

Facilitator Preparation

Facilitators go through a structured preparation process before each programme. This includes reviewing participant backgrounds and any specific scenarios relevant to the group.

Participant Feedback Loop

We collect written feedback at the end of every session and course. This feedback directly informs how we revise content and delivery for subsequent programmes.

Regulatory Boundary Discipline

All facilitators are trained to keep content within general educational boundaries. We do not cross into regulated advice territory, and this boundary is monitored actively.

Template Quality Control

Every editable tool and starter template distributed to participants is tested for usability before inclusion in any programme package.

Financial Literacy for Nonprofit Committees in Malaysia

Associations and charities in Malaysia — whether registered under the Registrar of Societies or operating as welfare organisations — rely on elected committee members to steward their finances. The treasurer, the secretary and the chairperson each carry a level of responsibility for how funds are recorded, reported and planned for. Most of them take on this work without any structured preparation.

Rizana addresses this by providing education specifically shaped around these organisations. We focus on topics that committees can act on immediately: how to maintain a clear record of income and expenditure, how to prepare a readable summary for members at a general meeting, and how to think ahead about funding cycles and annual budgets.

Our approach is unhurried. We work with people at the start of their learning, not those who already have a finance background. Participants in our programmes frequently tell us that the most valuable part is hearing how other associations approach the same challenges — which is why group learning is central to what we do.

Rizana is based in Ipoh and has worked with organisations across Perak since 2016. We welcome enquiries from associations of any size, including those with only a small number of active committee members.
